Elizabeth Emanuel is a firmly established British Designer with an outstanding world class reputation, elite clientele and work covering three decades.
Her highly individual and instantly recognizable style appeals to a wide range of clients of all ages and backgrounds. She has designed for many of the world’s most well-known celebrities including Bianca Jagger, Elizabeth Taylor, Elizabeth Hurley, Darcey Bussell, Charlize Theron, Barbara and Ringo Starr, Billy and Pamela Connolly, Sharon Osbourne, Faye Dunaway, Joan Collins, and Richard and Joan Branson.
Elizabeth studied fashion at Harrow where she met and married David Emanuel, and they became the first married couple to be accepted at the Royal College of Art. Elizabeth’s first collection upon graduating was sold exclusively at Browns, and the pair later launched Emanuel Salon in Brook Street, Mayfair.
In 1981, world interest focused on the marriage of Lady Diana Spencer to HRH The Prince of Wales. It was the Emanuel's now famous black evening dress that was to instantly change the image of a shy teenager into that of a future Princess. Lady Diana Spencer then turned to Emanuel to create the wedding dress of the century and 700 million people around the world watched as the Emanuel name became symbolic overnight.
Since then Elizabeth has designed for varied creative projects such as costumes for the Royal Ballet, Ballet Rambert and La Scala, music videos including Enya’s ‘Memory of Trees’, three perfume campaigns for Elizabeth Hurley and Estee Lauder, and Elizabeth Taylor’s ‘White Diamond’ perfume campaign. Her iconic Virgin Atlantic designs for led the way in airline uniform design. She has also designed costumes for movies and worked with British director Nick Love on his film ‘Outlaw’ and provided the wardrobe for E! TV series The Royals, starring Elizabeth Hurley.
‘A Dress for Diana’, co-written with David Emanuel, was first published by Anova/Pavilion in the UK and Harper Collins in the US in 2006. Extensive media coverage followed with appearances on ABC’s Good Morning America, CBS, Access Hollywood, BBC, GMTV, Canadian TV and many radio interviews across the US and UK. Editorial coverage included an eleven page feature in Hello Magazine, and major features in the Daily Express, USA Today, Telegraph and Daily Mail.
Elizabeth has guest judged Project Catwalk and Britain’s Next Top Model. She has also been the subject of two BBC documentaries and has appeared on BBC, ITV, National Geographic, PBS, CNN, ABC and NBC. In 2017 She featured in several documentaries celebrating the life of Diana Princess of Wales for UK, US, Dutch and Austrian TV.
2018 is set to be huge for Elizabeth as she launches a brand new label. Emanuel Mayfair will be defined by hand crafted bridal and evening wear with a contemporary and dramatic take on her signature style.
