Elizabeth Emanuel is the Creative Director of Emanuel Mayfair.
Trained at the Harrow School of Art, before graduating with a Masters from the Royal College of Art, Elizabeth’s exacting approach to design and her meticulous attention to detail led to critical acclaim at her first college show, and her debut collection was sold exclusively at Browns.
Elizabeth’s work was introduced on a unique and international stage when she (along with David Emanuel) designed Lady Diana Spencer’s wedding dress for her marriage to HRH the Prince of Wales, watched by 700 million people worldwide.
A lover and supporter of the arts, Elizabeth has long been involved with the creation of iconic costumes for British stage, including the Royal Ballet and Royal Opera. Her work has featured in film, television and music videos, and she has worked with private clients for bespoke bridal, awards season dressing and one-of-a-kind projects. Elizabeth is also responsible for the iconic Virgin Atlantic airline uniforms; first designing the famous outfits at Richard Branson’s personal request.
Elizabeth has always pursued the emotional, evocative and cinematic in her designs. Each new piece is approached as a story; something personal to the wearer, but also a symbol of their attitude and personality. They are part of the client’s story: and in some instances, become a story of their own.
At Emanuel Mayfair, Elizabeth continues to combine her unique vision with the finest artistry and craftsmanship, anchored by her uncompromising approach to quality, down to the tiniest detail. She also explores new and innovative ways to create her designs, from experimenting with fabrics that are ethically conscious, to combining the traditions of couture with new technologies.
Frequently in demand for her expertise as a fashion designer on television, Elizabeth has appeared as a guest judge for Project Catwalk and Britain’s Next Top Model. She has also been the subject of two BBC documentaries and makes regular appearances on BBC, ITV, National Geographic, PBS, CNN, ABC and NBC. In 2017 and 2018 she is featured in several new documentaries for the UK, USA, Netherlands and Austria.
