ONE of today’s hottest and refreshingly
inspirational jewellery designers is CLAIRE ARISTIDES. Claire moved
from Sydney to London 10 years ago, leaving her full time
job as an IT developer, she has never looked back.
Her breathtaking range of vintage, classic
and contemporary necklaces, earrings and bracelets has won her critical acclaim
from fashion experts all around the globe. Her designs have won great media
attention – featuring on national TV such as ITV1’s This Morning as well as in
countless magazines.
Claire’s first book, Bejewelled is a
beautiful guide to making bespoke fashion jewellery with crystals, beads and
charms, and was published in 2007 by Jacqui Small.
Claire also is Creative Director for her
own label, Pinky Jewellery (www.pinkyjewellery.com) which has a treasure
trove of pieces to suit every style and budget. Stockists include the
very popular fashion stores REISS, Fenwick, Ollie & Nic and Plümo.
Her love of everything sexy, glamorous and
just down right gorgeous, was inspired by her stylish mother who regularly
adorned herself in a variety of stunning jewellery.
Claire said: “I can vividly remember
watching my mother ceremoniously decant her jewels from this fantastic red
leather vanity case, something a Bond girl would have had. She would unroll her
jewellery wraps to choose from the colourful jewels.
“I was fascinated; they all seemed so full
of personality and character. I’ve been addicted to jewellery ever since.”
Sydney born Claire’s true love is mixing colour and textures in jewellery:
she states” I love mixing bold colours together, it gives my designs a 50’s
twist. I take inspiration from iconic jewellery designers like Miriam Haskell
and Elsa Schiaparelli. “
Claire holds regular jewellery-making workshops
from her Clerkenwell studios.
